Pontremoli

Pontremoli still boasts many traces of its past: the Piagnaro Castle, the numerous medieval bridges, the historical centre, the churches and the old buildings, where precious Baroque paintings are to be found. Its theatre is one of the oldest in Italy.

The old village used to be an important business centre and a meeting point for the first itinerant booksellers; not surprisingly Pontremoli is the place where the famous 'Bancarella' Literary Award takes place. Recently the 'Bancarella' Sport Award and the 'Ragazzi (Youngsters)' Literary Award have been added.


The Piagnaro Castle is home to The Statue Stele Museum.

Pontremoli also represents the ideal place for gourmets, thanks to its numerous restaurants serving typical local cuisine.
